Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) includes herbal medicine, acupuncture, tuina massage and related therapies. Some international patients are interested in TCM as a complement to conventional treatment for chronic conditions such as pain, digestive complaints or fatigue.
Several large hospitals run integrated TCM and Western medicine departments; the China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing, for example, has a strong tradition of integrative medicine.
TCM is not a substitute for proven treatment of serious disease. Patients should keep their own doctors informed, especially about herbal medicines that could interact with other drugs.
