Horcare is a coordination service, not a medical provider. Hospital credentials are public designations, not Horcare endorsements; clinical decisions and eligibility belong to the treating hospital.

What "University-affiliated" means

Most of China's leading hospitals are affiliated with a medical university: they train doctors, run research programs and host academic specialist departments. Many of the hospitals international patients ask about carry their university's name.

In practice, affiliation usually means multidisciplinary teams (MDT) that review complex cases together, access to registered clinical trials, and senior specialists who also teach.

Why a university-affiliated credential matters

For complex or rare conditions, a teaching hospital is more likely to offer multidisciplinary review and newer treatment options within approved or registered frameworks.

What it does not guarantee

Affiliation is about structure, not a quality score. Clinical trials have strict eligibility rules, decided by the hospital and the trial protocol.

Hospital credentials explained

Each credential answers a different question. None of them, on its own, tells you which department is right for your diagnosis.

CredentialWho grants itWhat it signalsWhat it does not guarantee
Grade 3A National and provincial health authoritiesLarge tertiary referral hospital in the top bandThat every department is equally strong
National medical center National Health CommissionNational lead institution for one specialtyStrength outside that specialty
University-affiliated A medical universityTeaching, research, multidisciplinary teamsAccess to any particular trial or treatment
International department The hospital itselfDedicated services for foreign patientsA separate medical team or the same pricing as general wards
JCI accredited Joint Commission InternationalAn international quality and safety standardClinical superiority over national Grade 3A hospitals

Why a credential is not enough

The department and the specialist matter more than a hospital's overall fame. A university-affiliated hospital may not be the strongest choice for a given condition.

Horcare matches in order: diagnosis → specialty → departments with relevant experience → the hospital decides eligibility. Start from the specialty index, for example oncology, or advanced options such as CAR-T therapy (approved products or registered trials only; eligibility is decided by the hospital) and proton therapy.

How fees work

  • The initial case review is free.
  • Hospital bills are paid directly to the hospital with no Horcare markup.
  • Horcare's service fee is quoted in writing before any paid work.

What does university-affiliated mean for a hospital in China?

It means the hospital is a teaching hospital of a medical university, with academic departments, research and training. Many of China's leading Grade 3A hospitals are university-affiliated.

Can international patients join clinical trials at these hospitals?

Some trials accept international patients, but eligibility is set by the trial protocol and decided by the hospital. Only registered clinical trials are relevant; no outcome is promised.

Do university hospitals offer multidisciplinary review?

Many do. Multidisciplinary teams (MDT) bring several departments together to review complex cases. A coordinator can ask whether an MDT review is possible for your case.

Which is the best hospital in China for my condition?

Horcare does not rank hospitals. Matching is specialty-first: the right department for your diagnosis matters more than a hospital's credential or fame, and the hospital decides eligibility. A free case review gives you options for your case.

What is a JCI-accredited hospital, and is it better than Grade 3A?

JCI accreditation is a voluntary international quality standard from Joint Commission International. A few Chinese hospitals hold it, while most leading public hospitals rely on the national Grade 3A system. Neither tells you which department is best for your condition.
